MCC Artist Fellowship Program Fellows and Finalists Photography

Running from February 28, 2014 to March 23, 2014 in the Main Gallery

The exhibition features 13 photographers: Rick Ashley (Marblehead), Dan Boardman (Somerville), Michael Cappabianca (Marshfield), Brian Rosa (Jamaica Plain), Rachel Loischild (Roslindale), Holly Lynton (Leverett), Greer Muldowney (Somerville), Johanna Warwick (Roxbury), Karl Baden (Cambridge), Justin Kimball (Florence), Lazaro Montano (Boston), Keiko Hiromi (Dorchester)and Stella Johnson (Watertown).

"The New Art Center is pleased to collaborate with the Massachusetts Cultural Council to present this exciting selection of Artist Fellows and Photography finalists. New England has long been a center of excellence and innovation in photography, and we are delighted to show the newest honorees of the MCC", said Daniel Elias, Executive Director of the New Art Center.

These distinguished photographers were selected from a pool of 372 applicants. The jurors included Ariel Shanberg (Executive Director , Center for Photography at Woodstock), Stephen DiRado (Photographer), Jessica May (Curator of Contemporary and Modern Art at the Portland Museum of Art, Portland, ME), Anne Havinga (Estrellita and Yousuf Karsh Senior Curator of Photographs, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston), and Suzanne Opton (Photographer).

MCC Artist Fellowships provide direct assistance to Massachusetts artists working across a range of disciplines, to recognize exceptional work and to support the further development of their talents. Artist Fellowships give individuals the financial ability to hone and deepen their craft.

It’s clear that photography continues to be a thriving art form in the Commonwealth” says Anita Walker, MCC’s Executive Director.  “Whether using traditional film or new digital photography formats, the NAC photography exhibition showcases the range of exceptional talent we are fortunate to support.”
